In 2005 Ewa Szymańska received her Master of Science at Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Gdánsk, Gdánsk, Poland. In 2008 she completed a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences also at Medical University of Gdánsk with the thesis entitled "Metabolic profiles of urinary nucleosides in urogenital tract cancer diseases". Her PhD work included development and application of analytical methods as well as data pre-processing and data analysis. For this work she was awarded the Best Thesis award from the Committee on Analytical Chemistry of Polish Academy of Sciences. In January 2009 Ewa started her post-doc position in the Biosystems Data Analysis group as a biostatistician in Nutrition and Health Associate Project Cluster within Netherlands Metabolomics Centre (NMC).
Nutrition and Health Associate Project Cluster consists of several projects related to different dietary interventions, cardiometabolic health status and weight management. The aim of this project cluster is to provide sensitive metabolic signatures which could be employed in assessment of cardiometabolic risk, identification of diets and dietary nutrients responsible for e.g. weight loss/gain, fat distribution, blood cholesterol lowering. The data analysis challenge will be extensive multivariate statistical analysis including thorough model validation to obtain biological interpretable metabolite patterns. Data analysis will concentrate on metabolite profiles obtained by different analytical platforms (LC-MS lipids and inflammatory mediators profiles, NMR serum lipoprotein profiles, GC-MS profiles of intermediary metabolites) and anthropometric and clinical data related to cardiometabolic health and fat distribution.
